Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, already a successful novelist, became a household name when Americanah was published in 2014. The book tells the story of Ifemelu and Obinze, a couple during secondary school and university in Lagos and Nsukka, Nigeria, who separate when Ifemelu goes to study in America. The book explores Ifemelu’s experience in America, where she struggles to find work, cuts off contact with Obinze after a disturbing experience, and becomes a prominent blogger on the topic of race in America. Obinze, by contrast, immigrates illegally to the United Kingdom, where he lives and works underground and struggles in vain to get a visa; he is ultimately deported....
