The Arabian Nights: One Thousand and One Nights Lesson Plan

Relationship to Other Books

It is a sign of the influence of The Arabian Nights that the number of Western books, films, and TV series adapting or deriving inspiration from it is too vast to list here. Some of the most prominent adaptations, such Disney's 1992 animated film Aladdin, will already be familiar to both teachers and students. Many of the literary works influenced by the Nights, however, are much older. A good example is Edgar Allen Poe's short story, "The Thousand and Second Tale of Scheherazade," first published in 1845.
