Because of its subject matter, both the teacher and the students will likely end up making a lot of references to classical mythology. Edith Hamilton's Greek Mythology may be one book that students will recall when reading Dante's Paradiso, as is Homer's The Odyssey and Virgil's The Aeneid. Allusions to the Bible and the broader corpus of Christian doctrine and literature also loom predictably large. Students who have read the previous sections of Dante's Divine Comedy, Inferno and Purgatorio, will also be able to draw from their knowledge of that text when reading and learning about Paradiso.
