Introduction to Salvatore

"Salvatore" is a short story by W. Somerset Maugham. The story begins and ends with first-person narration, but the majority of the story is written as a third-person biographical sketch of the protagonist, Salvatore. The story depicts a humble fisherman who, despite economic and health hardships, conducts himself with kindness. Maugham uses vivid imagery and concise language in his portrait of Salvatore to explore themes such as goodness, economic hardship, and disabilities.
