Weather
When the merchant got lost in the forest, the weather was really dreadful: “It rained and snowed terribly” beside,” the wind was so high, that it threw him twice off his horse”. The weather conditions were not promising and with night coming on, he began to “apprehend being either starved to death with cold and hunger, or else devoured by the wolves, whom he heard howling all around him”. Cold, wet, and the howling of the wolves create the atmosphere of worry; the image is meant to show all the danger the merchant had got into.
Beauty’s Apartment
When Beauty arrived at the Beast’s palace she was sure he was going to eat her, so she prepared herself. But the Beast did not show any signs of such an assumption and Beauty was free to walk all around as she wished. The image of the palace, which was “was a delightful pleasant place” is to show all the greatness, and during one of her walks Beauty found a door, over which was wrote Beauty’s Apartment. “She opened it hastily, and was quite dazzled with the magnificence that reigned throughout; but what chiefly took up her attention, was a large library, a harpsichord, and several music books.” The contains of the room showed that the Beast was really concerned with her comfort and the room had everything she found dear to her heart.
The effect of the words
When Beauty returned to the Beast, she found him half-alive for grief. She said that she finally realized how much she loved him, and not just a friend, and was ready to become his wife. The result of these words was stunning as “scarcely she had pronounced these words, when she saw the palace sparkle with light; and fireworks, instruments of music, every thing, seemed to give notice of some great event”. All these effects were of magic, as the Beast had disappeared and a handsome prince appeared in his place.
