What do you think of the narrator in "John Bartine's Watch"? What does his unusual character contribute to the overall tenor of this story?
If you were in the narrator's situation, and your friend had just told you this story about how upset he gets as his watch nears eleven, would you immediately try to play a trick on him? It's not a particularly nice thing to do. Even if it hadn't actually caused his death, the narrator messed with his friend to satisfy his own curiosity.
