What does Elio find so hateful about Oliver’s use of the word “later”?
Elio finds Oliver’s use of “Later!” as a way to say goodbye very gruff, casual, and rude. At best, it’s apathetic and bold, but it always stings Elio and hurts his feelings. Elio cares a great deal about Oliver, so to be met with such a seemingly careless dismissal is biting for him.
