Objective:

To explore the author’s frequent use of metaphor throughout the novel and understand its impact

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.11-12.5.A, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.1

Structure:

Ask students to find 5 metaphors that the author uses in Part 2 of the novel. How does the use of metaphor impact their understanding of the story and elements of the story? What effect does the metaphor have in terms of the emotion it evokes and the beauty of the text? How does it reflect on the characters that use metaphor to describe their world? Students should write 2 pages answering these questions.
