Before I Fall is Lauren Oliver's 2010 debut smash-hit young adult novel. This book follows a very popular high-school girl named Samantha ("Sam") as she is forced to relieve the day of her death - resulting from a tragic car accident - every day for a week, making new - and uncharacteristic - choices along the way in an attempt to understand what is happening to her (and why it is happening) and to try to change her grisly and unfortunate fate. It is in the style of the classic film "Groundhog Day" and shows Sam going through the five stages of grief, which ends in her acceptance of her untimely death.
Before I Fall was also adapted into a movie of the same name (released in 2017), starring Zoey Deutch, Halston Sage, Logan Miller, and Kian Lawley and directed by Ry Russo-Young. It holds a respectable 64% critic score and 57% audience score on movie review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes and a score of 3.9 out of 5 on Amazon.
